(Also known as α (alpha) Piscis Austrini) A blue star 25 lightyears from Earth: about sixteen times as luminous as Earth's Sun, the brightest star in the southern-hemisphere constellation officially designated on Earth as Piscis Austrinus (abbreviation PsA), the Southern Fish. The name is derived from the Arabic Fum al-Haut, "the Mouth of the Fish".

Fomalhaut is the primary of Fomalhaut B, known to its inhabitants as Sshuvih (q.v.), the first exosolar planet directly observed by Earth astronomers (as opposed to planets detected via their gravitational effects on other bodies, or similar indirect evidence). Fomalhaut B is approximately 3 times the mass of Jupiter, and a ringed planet: the rings made its detection easier due to their high reflectivity.
