Mamvish

Mamvish fsh Wimsih fsh Mentaff (not her full name: this goes on for many more sequences, of interest only to others of her kind) is a member of the Tauwff species, a relatively long-lived and vaguely reptilian people native to Wimst (aka alpha Orionis / Betelgeuse XVIIIa). She is an expert in rafting technologies and logistics, having been deeply involved in the Interconnect Project associated with the collapse of the star Alterf. This project relocated many vital worldgating technologies from the doomed system to a multiplicity of new homes across three galaxies, including the planet Rirhath B, where Alterf's gating technologies were migrated to / mated to the newly evolving technologies already based at the Crossings.

Mamvish physically closely resembles a Komodo dragon, except in size: for her, a Komodo dragon would make a small but tasty hors d’oeuvre. On passing her Ordeal at an age approximating to 1750 Earth years (the equivalent of eight years old in most 21st-century Western cultures), she began to specialize in the preservation of threatened lifeforms and lifestyles, and the de-encapsulation of archived or preserved "species kernels", as well as the management, proliferation and recovery / restitution of other species, and (more generally) in a wide range of planetary survival techniques. Her expertise is such that the Powers that Be awarded her the unusual title "Preserver" (sometimes translated from the Speech as "Species Archivist") and have given her access to power levels which are nearly unparallelled among living wizards. While she is not a Senior Wizard, when she is on errantry in any given volume of space, Mamvish outranks and can (if necessary) override all local supervisory-level wizards up to the Planetary level.

Of some billions of wizards presently active in the Local Group area, Mamvish is one of only eleven wizards from whose Ordeal the Lone Power abstained. When queried about the details, Mamvish will never say anything but, "It said It had a headache." Since her language of discourse is the Speech, this must be true; though the concepts "to be true" and "to be taken at face value" are, as usual, very different things.

Mamvish also really, really likes tomatoes in all their possible permutations -- which is the less important of the two reasons why she is so surprisingly often to be found in Earth's Solar System. If you should be standing in the street eating a slice of pizza and see what looks like a gigantic Komodo dragon coming your way, drop the pizza and move. Mamvish would feel ever so guilty if because of slow reaction time you somehow became party to an ingested-vegetable incident. (AWOM)
