Master-Shark

In the Sea, "the one fish over whom no Mastery was ever given" to the Lords of the Humours: the chief of all shark-kind, achieving to that position by either acquiring the greatest size or the greatest age of all sharks, and sometimes both. The Master-Shark is able to call all sharks within hearing and require them to do his or her bidding.

In the Song of the Twelve, the Master-Shark "receives the sacrifice" of the Silent Lord by devouring the whale singing that part. At the time Nita finds herself singing the Silent One's part in the Song, there is some uncertainty over whether the present Master-Shark might actually be the Song's original participant. (DW)
