In return for being granted this grim post-mortal existence, the perytons willingly serve the Lone One as hunters, trackers, and instruments of torture

I thought that SYWTBAW said that perytons were the souls of humans who only ever felt alive when they were killing or causing pain, and thus hunting and torturing were their own reward.

A human's scent enrages perytons beyond anything else, and they will immediately kill any human they catch.

I also thought that SYW said something about perytons eternally tormenting the soul of any living thing they caught, rather than merely killing it. -- Khym Chanur 18:47, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Re the first note: True, but the point is in how they get into the peryton "bodies". Re the second: The killing is just the first step in the torment.  :( ...But thanks for the notes, anyway: I included the first one into the article. :) --DianeDuane 10:49, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
