A space used for practicing the most dangerous and deep-reaching wizardries, those intended to alter the kernel of a space, universe or dimension. Because of the danger involved in working with kernels before the wizard in question fully understands what he, she or it is doing, the Powers that Be have established several sequences of aschetic or "practice" universes where wizards training in kernel studies can hone their skills without running the risk of destroying a space in which life already exists (or may in the future).

Nita spends some time working in one of the aschetic universes while refining the techniques needed to make basic alterations to her mother's kernel. (TWD)
