Lotus Turbo EspritAutomobile manufactured (in our world) by Group Lotus in the United Kingdom. Arguably one of the sleekest and most beautiful sports cars of the early 1980's, the Esprit's fantastic performance and superior roadhandling characteristics built the "supercar" reputation which it maintained throughout the first stage of its long production life (from its birth as a "concept car" in 1972 until its its revamped/restyled version was withdrawn in 2004. A new, completely redesigned version is now scheduled for 2009.). It was probably this reputation that caused the Esprit to be featured as a weapons-laden, souped-up spymobile in the classic James Bond films For Your Eyes Only and The Spy Who Loved Me -- a role which the Esprit carried off with grace and style. While searching through the Dark Manhattan for the lost Book of Night with Moon, Kit and Nita come across the place where a sentient, predating Lotus Esprit has been injured by the Rolls-Royce it was hunting. Kit helps the Lotus with its injury, and later has the favor repaid at a very useful moment. The prose description of Kit's Lotus in the present editions of SYWTBAW suggests that it is the 1983 model. The Lotus's paint job is a metallic dark brown.
