It’s midnight in Central Park. A mugger chases a runner down to the shore of Central Park Lake — and something rather unusual happens to them both. The ‘something’ involves a lone woman they meet by the lakeside…and wizardry.
Shortly afterwards, Carina Keeler, the wizard who saved the runner, is nowhere to be found. Senior wizard Carl Romeo calls in his two sharpest young wizards — Nita Callahan and Kit Rodriguez — to take over Carina’s caseload for a few days, until she comes back from whatever mysterious business has taken her away both from her job as a TV journalist and her far more important work as one of New York City’s wizards.
