A Wizard of Mars digital wallpaper series
To celebrate the 2011 release of A Wizard of Mars, early in that year we rolled out a series of wallpapers showing some of the background locations of scenes in the book. All these wallpapers have been designed using actual Martian laser altimetry and radar terrain data from NASA’s Mars Global Surveyor probe. By plugging this data into the fabulous Terragen scenery-generation software, it was possible for DD to use these real-world landscapes of Mars to scout locations for the book’s events. Now you too can see what Kit, Nita and the other characters in A Wizard of Mars see as they stand on the surface of the Red Planet!
ETA: with the advent of the new and more powerful version 4 of Terragen, during 2023 we’re going to be re-rendering all the original digital art in far higher quality and 8K definition, with and without labels. Â
The first of the new renders can be downloaded from its links below.
